…..Top sports administrators set to defend final theses in Kwara State

The final module of the 2024/2025 IOC/NOC Advanced Sport Management Course (ASMC) is scheduled to hold from Tuesday, October 28, to Thursday, October 30, 2025, at the University of Ilorin, Kwara State.

This concluding session will feature no fewer than 21 top-level sports administrators defending their final theses, marking the culmination of a rigorous year-long programme aimed at strengthening sports governance and leadership in Nigeria.

The ASMC is a flagship initiative of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), delivered through Olympic Solidarity in partnership with the Nigerian Olympic Committee (NOC).

It is designed to equip sports administrators with contemporary management skills and practical tools to drive positive and sustainable transformation within their respective organisations.

Now in its 7th edition, the course commenced with 25 participants drawn from State Sports Councils, tertiary institutions, and paramilitary organisations. The year-long training—based on the IOC’s Managing Olympic Sport Organisations manual—blends in-person and virtual learning sessions to provide a comprehensive experience in sports management and leadership.

The final module will be facilitated by IOC-certified Course Directors, Prof. Clement Fasan and Dr. Jonathan Dyagas, alongside invited external experts.

Engr. Habu Ahmed Gumel, President of the NOC, is expected to declare the session open, underscoring the Committee’s continued commitment to excellence and capacity development in Nigerian sports administration.

In a statement signed by Tony Nezianya, Public Relations Officer of the NOC, the Committee reaffirmed its resolve to produce a new generation of competent, world-class sports administrators capable of upholding the IOC’s global standards of governance and management.

“The successful completion of this final module will further strengthen Nigeria’s sports system and ensure the implementation of modern governance practices across the sector,” the statement added.

The Nigerian Olympic Committee is the national body responsible for coordinating Nigeria’s participation in the Olympic Games, Commonwealth Games, and other international sporting events. It also promotes the values of Olympism and the holistic development of sports across the country.
