11,886 Students Set to Receive Degrees at UNILORIN’s 40th Convocation, 316 First Class

 

The University of Ilorin (UNILORIN) has concluded arrangements to award degrees and diplomas to a total of 11,886 students  and diplomas, including 316 First Class degree holders.

The Vice-chancellor,  Professor Wahab Egbewole who disclosed this at the 40th Convocation Press Briefing on Monday gave the breakdown of the awards: 4,120 Second Class (Upper Division), 5,939 Second Class (Lower Division), 1,078 Third Class, and 11 Pass graduates.

The week-long festivities, scheduled to run from October 17 to 26, 2025, will feature a series of academic, cultural, and ceremonial activities designed to highlight the university’s achievements and traditions of excellence.

The convocation lecture, titled “The Gen-Z Playbook: Navigating Work and the Real World,” will be delivered by Babatunde Raji Fashola, SAN, on October 22, 2025, at 9:00 a.m.

According to the VC, this is expected to be a highlight of the ceremony, as Fashola shares his insights on the challenges and opportunities facing the younger generation.

“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is expected to commission newly completed projects across the university campus on October 23, 2025, at 1:30 p.m.

“This will be a significant moment for the university, as it showcases its commitment to providing world-class infrastructure for its students and staff.

“The convocation ceremonies will be held in phases, with four-year programmes and diploma holders graduating on October 22, and five- and six-year programmes, as well as postgraduate students, graduating on October 23.

“Other events lined up for the convocation include a special Juma’at service on October 17, 2025, at the University Central Mosque, an interdenominational church service on October 19, 2025, at the Chapel of the Light, and a convocation play, “Joromi,” on October 21, 2025, at the Performing Arts Theatre. The investiture of Emeritus Professors will also take place on October 23, 2025, at the University Auditorium.

” One of the unique feature of the convocation is the investiture of seven distinguished academics as Emeritus Professors having been si pronounced by the Senate of the University in line with oue academic calendar, over the years.

” During the 2024/2025 academic session,  the University Senate approved the appointment of three distinguished Emeritus Professors… and the story of an institution that has remained uninterrupted in academic calendar,  unwavering in its standards, and unyielding in its vision of becoming world class citadel of learning.
