WBFA Urges Ilorin Students to Make Handwashing Daily Habit for Better Health
The Wellbeing Foundation Africa (WBFA) has called on students in Ilorin to embrace regular handwashing as a vital practice to prevent diseases and maintain good hygiene.
The foundation made the call during a sensitisation programme held to mark the 2025 Global Handwashing Day, with the theme “Be a Handwashing Hero.”
WBFA Country Director, Dr Adebukola Shittu-Muideen, said the initiative was part of the foundation’s efforts to promote hygiene education among schoolchildren across Nigeria.
“Regular handwashing remains one of the simplest and most effective ways to stay healthy,” Shittu-Muideen told students, adding that the habit not only keeps diseases away but also promotes overall wellbeing and reduces absenteeism in schools.
She explained that the foundation targets young people because habits formed early in life often last into adulthood.
“Our goal is to catch them young so that good hygiene becomes a natural part of their lifestyle,” she said. “Handwashing is not just about cleanliness; it is a powerful act of self-care and protection for oneself, one’s family, and the community.”
Shittu-Muideen also reminded students that healthy learners are better positioned to focus on their studies and achieve their aspirations.
A teacher at St. Anthony’s Secondary School, Mrs Omolade Omojola, commended the foundation for the campaign, noting that it would positively influence students’ attitudes toward hygiene.
“This kind of sensitisation helps students form healthier daily habits and understand the importance of staying clean,” she said.
The WBFA initiative is part of its ongoing commitment to promoting health education and preventive care in schools across Nigeria.
