Peace has returned to Isanlu-Isin, Kwara State, after a protest by youths on Saturday temporarily disrupted movement along the Omu-Aran/Ilorin Road at the Eleyin axis.

The demonstrators, who blocked the busy road in the morning hours, were protesting recent security concerns in their community.

Reacting swiftly to the development, the Kwara State Commissioner of Police, CP Adekimi Ojo, mobilized security forces in collaboration with the Brigade Commander of the 22 Armored Brigade, Brigadier General E.B. Barkins, and the State Director of the Department of State Services (DSS).

They were joined by the Executive Chairmen of Irepodun and Isin Local Government Areas, Hon. Abdulazeez Yakubu Tinuola and Hon. Benjamin Jolayemi, alongside community leaders who engaged directly with the protesting youths.

Police spokesperson, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, said security operatives deployed to the scene acted professionally to prevent hoodlums from hijacking the peaceful demonstration.

“Strategic crowd-control measures were applied with utmost professionalism to guarantee the safety of all parties involved and to secure free vehicular movement,” she said in a statement.

She added that the Command was grateful for the cooperation of the community leaders and youths whose dialogue helped restore calm quickly.

The Commissioner of Police assured residents that security architecture in the area has been strengthened. “We want to reassure members of the public that their safety and freedom of movement remain fully guaranteed.

We also urge citizens to continue to support security agencies by promptly reporting any suspicious activities,” he stated.
