Falilat Strikes Gold as Team Kwara Shines at Asaba 2025

Team Kwara opened their medal account in grand style at the ongoing Asaba 2025 National Sports Festival, with Abdulrasak Falilat making history as the first athlete to deliver gold for the state.

She powered to victory in the women’s 40km road cycling event, while her teammate Atanda Abdulmaleek added a bronze medal in the men’s 80km race.

The team’s resilience was further displayed in Para-Table Tennis, where Ridwan Mustapha and Abubakri Khalid battled their way to a bronze medal in the boys’ doubles category. In swimming, the girls’ 4x100m medley relay squad dug deep to claim another bronze for Kwara.

Table Tennis also produced promising results, as Yetunde Semilore and Yusuf Mohammed marched into the quarter-finals after an emphatic victory over Lagos State in the boys’ doubles. In the female doubles Fives, Gaana Grace and Busayo Falana secured a spot in the final and are now eyeing gold.

Not all contests went Kwara’s way, however, as the team suffered losses in the women’s Ayo singles event. Still, optimism remains high.

“The athletes have shown remarkable spirit. The medals are coming, and we are confident of more podium finishes in the days ahead,” a Team Kwara official said.

With events such as Ayo, Boxing, Cricket, Volleyball, Taekwondo, Fives, Shooting, Swimming, Golf, and Handball ongoing, and new disciplines like Para Powerlifting, Squash, Tennis, and Darts beginning today, Team Kwara continues to push for glory at Asaba 2025.
