Kwara Fire Service Averts Major Damage in Ilorin Building Fire
A potential disaster was averted on Sunday, July 20, as the Kwara State Fire Service swiftly contained a fire outbreak at a commercial-residential building along Muritala Muhammed Way in Ilorin.
The incident, which occurred around 11:30 a.m. opposite the C & S Church, involved a two-storey structure housing eight rooms and ten shops. Thanks to the prompt intervention of firefighters, the blaze was prevented from spreading beyond a single room.
Confirming the incident, Director of the Kwara State Fire Service, Prince Falade John Olumuyiwa, said the team’s rapid response played a crucial role in saving lives and property.
“Our men acted quickly and professionally. We were able to stop the fire from escalating, and only one room was affected despite the building’s size and close proximity to other structures,” he said.
Preliminary findings traced the cause of the fire to a power surge. Prince Falade urged residents and business owners to take necessary precautions when dealing with electricity.
“We appeal to the public to prioritise electrical safety at all times. Power surges and faulty wiring remain common causes of fire outbreaks. Everyone must be vigilant,” he added.
Authorities have reiterated their commitment to public safety and encouraged citizens to report emergencies promptly to reduce risk and damage.
