Iran Denies Involvement as 750 Tons of Weapons Bound for Houthis Seized

Iranian officials are denying involvement after 750 tons of advanced military equipment including anti-ship missiles and drone engines were confiscated this week by an anti-Houthi militia calling themselves the “National Resistance Forces.”

According to Iran International, forces led by General Tareq Saleh, nephew of Yemen’s former President Ali Abdullah Saleh, seized the massive weapons cache bound for the terror group. Along with the anti-ship and anti-aircraft missiles, they discovered warheads, hundreds of drone engines, air defense equipment, radar systems and communications gear.

US Central Command confirmed Wednesday that many weapons systems came from a company affiliated with Iran’s defense ministry. Military officials noted that instruction manuals accompanying the equipment were written in Farsi, providing clear evidence of Iranian origin.

“We commend the legitimate government forces of Yemen who continue to interdict the flow of Iranian munitions bound for the Houthis,” General Michael Erik Kurilla told reporters. Kurilla commands US Central Command operations across the Middle East.

“The interdiction of this massive Iranian shipment shows that Iran remains the most destabilizing actor in the region,” he added. “Limiting the free flow of Iranian support to the Houthis is critical to regional security, stability, and freedom of navigation.”
