Kwara Vows to Crush Banditry as Speaker Leads Visit to Attack Victims in Edu

The Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Yakubu Danladi-Salihu, has assured residents of Edu Local Government and surrounding areas that the state government remains resolute in its commitment to end all forms of criminality threatening the peace and safety of citizens.

Leading a high-powered government delegation to villages recently attacked by suspected bandits, the Speaker said the administration of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq is taking bold steps to restore peace and protect the lives and property of all residents.

“On behalf of the Kwara State government, we are here to express our deepest and sincere condolences over these unfortunate attacks,” Danladi-Salihu said during his visit to Kpandaragi, Bokungi, and Guye Dadi communities.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims. As a government, we are committed to crushing criminal elements completely and ensuring lasting peace in Edu and across the state.”

He revealed that Governor AbdulRazaq had already mobilised military personnel and forest guards to flush out the attackers.

“Just yesterday, His Excellency met with key stakeholders and gave updates on the deployment of security forces to track down these elements. But we must all be involved — let’s stay vigilant and report anything suspicious to security agencies,” he added.

The delegation also paid sympathy visits to the Etsu of Tsaragi, Alhaji Abdullah Kpotwa Aliyu, and the Emir of Lafiagi, Alhaji Muhammad Kawu Kudu, offering solidarity on behalf of the state government.

Speaking during the visit, the Emir of Lafiagi commended the swift response of the government, particularly the governor’s proactive role in addressing the situation.

“We are grateful that the government is not leaving us alone in this difficult moment. But we appeal for more forest guards and support for our farmers whose lands have been ravaged,” the Emir said.

In response, the Speaker assured the traditional rulers that the governor would give due consideration to their requests, especially in the areas of security reinforcement and agricultural recovery. “The wellbeing and prosperity of our people are top priorities for this government,” he noted.

Accompanying the Speaker were several top government officials and lawmakers, including Hon. Gideon Saba Yisa (Edu), Hon. Mohammed Musa Kareem (Patigi), Hon. Saidu Baba (Bani/Adena/Gwaria), and the Chairmen of Edu and Patigi LGAs.

Other officials on the visit included the Commissioner for Water Resources, Hon. Usman Yunusa; Adviser on Social Investment, Hon. Saddiq Buhari; and senior aides on agriculture and rural development.

The visit underscored the state government’s resolve to confront security threats head-on and provide support to affected communities.
