Ondo APC Chieftain Killed by Kidnappers After Collecting Ransom

A wave of grief has swept through Ose Local Government Area of Ondo State following the killing of Mr. Nelson Adepoyigi, the Ward 5 Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), by suspected kidnappers despite efforts by his family to secure his release.

Adepoyigi was abducted last Monday at the entrance of his farm located along Ifon-Owo road in Ifon, the council headquarters. His abductors initially demanded N100 million in ransom.

The family managed to gather N5 million, but tragedy struck when the two persons sent to deliver the money were also held hostage, and the ransom demand was increased to N30 million for the release of all three.

By Friday, the kidnappers reportedly shot Adepoyigi dead and freed the two other captives.

Reacting to the development, the chairman of Ose Local Government, Mr. Clement Ojo, said the news was both painful and disturbing. “While we are grateful that the two volunteers have now regained their freedom, it is deeply saddening and utterly painful that the life of Mr. Nelson Adepoyigi was brutally cut short by his captors,” he said.

Ojo described the late APC ward chairman as a committed grassroots politician who gave his all to the development of his community.

He also raised concerns over the growing insecurity in the area, revealing that another resident narrowly escaped abduction recently.

“We are now at a critical juncture where security challenges have become a serious threat to the safety and freedom of our people,” he warned.

Attempts to get a reaction from the Ondo State Police Command spokesperson, Mr. Olayinka Ayanlade, were unsuccessful, as calls to his phone line did not go through.

The community remains in mourning, with residents calling for urgent government intervention to tackle rising cases of kidnapping and insecurity in the area.
