Kwara Moves to Revolutionise Transport Sector with Smart Technology and Digital Monitoring
The Kwara State Government has announced a bold initiative to overhaul the state’s transport system through the deployment of smart technologies and automated vehicle inspections aimed at boosting safety, easing mobility, and enhancing revenue generation.
Addressing journalists at the Quarterly Inter-Ministerial Press Briefing in Ilorin, the Commissioner for Transportation, Alhaji Lafia Kora Sabi, said the new direction is a deliberate step by the AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq-led administration to fix longstanding inefficiencies in the sector.
“We are introducing automated vehicle inspections and smart technologies to modernise our transport system. This will not only make our roads safer but also improve revenue and reduce stress for both commuters and operators,” Sabi stated.
He said the state government plans to equip all garages across Kwara with digital systems capable of capturing the activities of operators and passengers, adding that the move will ensure better monitoring and planning.
The commissioner further disclosed that traffic lights would soon be installed at major junctions while a central transport database would be developed to support evidence-based planning and policy decisions.
According to him, this administration is prioritising modernization across all sectors, and the Ministry of Transportation has a crucial role to play in aligning our transport infrastructure with global best practices.
He praised the establishment of a full-fledged Ministry of Transportation as a timely and strategic move, describing it as a vehicle for digital transformation and a more responsive system that meets the needs of Kwara residents.
“Our goal is clear—to build a smart, efficient, and people-oriented transportation network that will serve present and future generations,” Sabi added.
