Fire Outbreak in Ilorin: Fire Service Contains Blaze Sparked by Child’s Play
The Kwara State Fire Service on Saturday, successfully contained a fire outbreak at Tiwadayo Community, Behind Gospel Faith Church, Michael Imodu Labour Studies area, Ilorin South Local Government Area of Kwara State.
This was disclosed n a statement signed by PFO Hassan Hakeem Adekunle, Head of Media and Publicity for the Director of the Kwara State Fire Service, and made available to newsmen in Ilorin.
According to the statement, the fire, which started around 2:22 pm, engulfed one room in a three-bedroom flat.
Firefighters swiftly responded to the distress call and, through technical expertise and coordinated efforts, were able to prevent the fire from spreading to other parts of the building or nearby structures. Only one bedroom was affected by the incident.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the fire was accidentally started by a seven-year-old boy who was playing with matches. The child reportedly dropped a lit matchstick onto a combustible material, sparking the blaze.
Commending the firefighters for their professionalism, the Director of the Kwara State Fire Service, Prince Falade John Olumuyiwa, praised their swift and tactical response.
He also urged the public to prioritize fire safety, warning parents to keep matches and other ignition sources away from children, noting that “a single matchstick could destroy an entire building.”
The Kwara State Fire Service reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding lives and property through professionalism and rapid emergency response.
