Dangote Foundation Sends 40,000 Bags of Rice to Kogi’s Vulnerable Residents in Major Relief Effort
Thousands of vulnerable households across Kogi State have benefitted from a large-scale food donation by the Aliko Dangote Foundation (ADF), under its N16 billion Annual National Food Intervention Programme.
The Kogi State Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Hajia Rabietu Okute, who confirmed the development, said the state received 40,000 bags of 10kg rice from the Foundation.
She noted that the distribution targeted the poor, orphans, persons with disabilities, and other disadvantaged groups in the state’s 21 local government areas.
“We ensured the rice reached every part of the state,” Okute said. “The governor, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, directed that the process must be transparent and impactful, and a 12-member committee was set up in each local government to handle the distribution. The products also went to 23 orphanages and disability groups.”
According to her, the intervention, which officially began in Kogi on March 26, has significantly touched the lives of the most vulnerable, easing the burden of food insecurity in many communities.
While expressing gratitude to Africa’s richest man, Okute described the gesture as timely and generous.
“We sincerely appreciate the Aliko Dangote Foundation and Alhaji Aliko Dangote himself for this show of compassion. It has brought relief to many families, and we pray for continued blessings on him and his business ventures,” she said.
The General Manager, Community Affairs/Special Duties at Dangote Cement Plc, Mr. Ademola Adeyemi, who supervised the distribution in Kogi, said the gesture was not only about food but about strengthening community ties between the Dangote Group and the people of the state.
Also speaking on the broader vision, the Managing Director of the Foundation, Zouera Youssoufou, said the Annual Food Intervention Programme is part of Alhaji Dangote’s commitment to fight hunger and support government efforts to reduce poverty.
“Mr. Dangote is deeply passionate about giving back. Through this programme, he hopes to ensure that no Nigerian is left behind in the struggle against hunger,” she said.
