Ex-BOI Boss Urges Youth to Embrace Reading Culture, Launches Biography to Support Education
A former General Manager of the Bank of Industry (BOI), Pastor Joseph Babatunde, has advised Nigerian youths to develop a strong reading habit and embrace lifelong learning as a tool for personal growth and national development.
Speaking in Ilorin during the public presentation of his biography titled Peculiar Babs: An Epitome of God’s Grace and Mercy, Babatunde said reading expands the mind and builds knowledge, which are essential for cognitive development and success in life.
“There is no shortcut to a fruitful life. It takes hard work, discipline, and a heart that seeks God’s direction,” he said.
Recounting his own journey, Babatunde noted that he served at the Bank of Industry for 35 years without receiving a single query or negative report, a feat he attributed to God’s grace and personal integrity.
“The book tells my story from the heart—my experiences, especially at the BOI—so others can learn and be inspired,” he added.
He announced that proceeds from the book would go into establishing the Peculiar Technical School and Youth Empowerment Centre through his Peculiar Foundation.
According to him, the initiative aims to tackle social issues affecting young people and provide them with practical skills for a better future.
Also speaking at the event, Professor Ernest Kolade of the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital described the biography as both spiritually uplifting and intellectually enriching.
“This book will encourage a culture of reading and also guide our youth to become responsible and impactful leaders in their communities,” he said.
