KWASU Elevates Academic Excellence with Promotion of 28 Senior Lecturers
In a move to boost academic growth and recognize outstanding scholarship, the Governing Council of Kwara State University (KWASU), Malete, has approved the promotion of 28 academic staff members, with three elevated to the prestigious rank of professor and 25 others confirmed as associate professors.
The decision was taken during the 73rd meeting of the University Council held on Thursday, April 10, 2025.
Those promoted to full professorship include Professor Shehu Abdulganiyu Salau of the Faculty of Agriculture, a specialist in Agricultural Production Economics; Professor Moshood Zakariyah from the Faculty of Arts, whose expertise is in Sociolinguistics; and Professor Olayiwola Gafar Olorisade, an authority in Educational Administration from the Faculty of Education.
According to the Acting Director of University Relations, Dr. Saeedat Aliyu, the promotion is part of the institution’s ongoing efforts to reward academic excellence and commitment to research, teaching, and community development.
“This promotion exercise reflects our commitment to merit and our resolve to build a world-class university with competent and motivated staff,” she stated.
The promotion list cut across several faculties, demonstrating the university’s broad-based academic strength. From the Faculty of Agriculture, five scholars including Dr. Latifat Kehinde Olatinwo and Dr. Felicia Motunrayo Olooto were promoted, both experts in Agricultural Extension and Rural Development.
Also promoted were Dr. Olarinke Victoria Adeniyi (Aquaculture Management), Dr. James Adebayo Ojo (Entomology), and Dr. Akeem Olayemi Raji (Food Processing Technology).
In the Faculty of Arts, five lecturers including Arabic and Islamic Studies specialists like Dr. Yahya Toyin Muritala and Dr. Sherifat Hussain-Abubakar earned promotions, highlighting KWASU’s dedication to cultural and religious scholarship.
Engineering and technology also had their share with the promotion of experts such as Engineer Dr. Olalekan Ogunbiyi (Power System and Automatic Control), and Engineer Dr. Kamoru Olufemi Oladosu (Production and Renewable Energy).
Other faculties represented include Education, Law, Information and Communication Technology, Management and Social Sciences, and Pure and Applied Sciences, reflecting the university’s multidisciplinary approach to development.
From Pure and Applied Sciences, Dr. Emmanuel Anyachukwu Irondi (Food and Nutritional Biochemistry) and Dr. Wasiu Akanni Yahya (Theoretical and Computational Physics) were among those promoted.
KWASU’s Governing Council affirmed that the promotions were based on rigorous assessments of the candidates’ academic records, research contributions, and service to the university.
“Our lecturers are at the heart of our mission to deliver transformative education. Recognizing and rewarding their dedication is non-negotiable,” the council stated.
With these promotions, the university continues to solidify its reputation as a hub for academic excellence and innovation in Nigeria.
