KWASU Gains Continental Recognition as Digital Research Repository Joins African Listing

Kwara State University (KWASU), Malete, has recorded a major academic milestone as its Institutional Repository (KWASU IR) has been listed on the African Digital Research Repositories platform.

This development positions KWASU among top institutions on the continent that are harnessing digital innovation to preserve and share academic knowledge.

The KWASU IR serves as a digital archive for research outputs, scholarly publications, and academic resources.

Describing the achievement as a breakthrough, the University Librarian, Professor Abdulsalam Abiodun Salman, said the listing would significantly boost the visibility of the institution and enhance its ranking both locally and internationally.

“This is a huge step forward for KWASU. It means our research is now more accessible, and we can attract greater academic collaboration across Africa and beyond,” Professor Salman stated.

He emphasized that the repository would not only promote knowledge sharing and collaboration but also enrich teaching and learning across various departments.

Professor Salman credited the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Shaykh-Luqman Jimoh, for his foresight and support, which he said were instrumental in the establishment and development of the repository.

According to him, the journey to being listed required a rigorous submission and review process to meet international standards for quality and relevance.

“We are confident that the KWASU IR will serve as a catalyst for research growth, both within and outside the university,” he added.

KWASU’s inclusion in the African Digital Research Repositories reflects the institution’s commitment to academic excellence and digital transformation in higher education.
