Kwara Rice Farmers Applaud Appointment of Engr. Olusola as River Basin MD, Pledge Support

The Kwara State chapter of the Rice Farmers Association of Nigeria (RIFAN) has lauded the appointment of Engineer George Olumoroti Olusola as the new Managing Director of the Lower Niger River Basin Development Authority, describing it as timely and well-deserved.

Speaking on behalf of the association, the State Coordinator, Mallam Mohammed Salihu, praised President Bola Tinubu for what he called “a strategic decision that reflects the administration’s commitment to technical competence and grassroots development.”

“This is a round peg in a round hole,” Salihu said. “Engr. Olusola is a seasoned technocrat who has the experience and vision needed to drive innovation, particularly in agricultural development and irrigation systems. We believe his leadership will align with the Renewed Hope Agenda of the current administration.”

Salihu noted that the appointment further demonstrates the federal government’s focus on people-oriented policies and the promotion of food security, especially in agrarian states like Kwara.

He expressed confidence that the new MD would utilize modern irrigation technologies to improve crop yields and enhance the productivity of farmers across the state and beyond.

“We at RIFAN are fully ready to support him with all necessary cooperation and guidance to ensure a fruitful and impactful tenure,” he added.

The association expressed optimism that the new leadership at the River Basin Authority would bring about meaningful changes that would uplift farming communities and accelerate food production in the region.
