Kwara Assembly Committee Pledges Legislative Backing for Health Sector Reforms

 

The newly reconstituted Kwara State House of Assembly Committee on Health and Nutrition has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening the state’s healthcare system in line with Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s vision.

During a familiarization meeting on April 2, 2025, at the Assembly Complex, the committee engaged with the Honourable Commissioner for Health, Dr. Amina El-Imam, and key health sector stakeholders, including Prof. Nusirat Elelu, Executive Secretary of the Kwara State Primary Health Care Development Agency (KWSPHCDA), and Dr. Olubunmi Jetawo-Winter, Executive Secretary of the Kwara Health Insurance Agency (KWHIA). Others present included Dr. Abdulraheem Malik of the Hospital Management Board (HMB) and Dr. Ahmed Bola, Chief Medical Director of Kwara State University Teaching Hospital (KWASUTH).

Chairman of the Committee, Ogbeni David Sheun Ogunniyi, emphasized that the 10th Assembly remains committed to supporting the administration’s ongoing efforts to revamp the health sector. “The investments in healthcare under this administration have been unprecedented. As lawmakers, we will ensure that these gains translate into sustained, accessible, and quality medical services for Kwarans,” he stated.

The committee pledged to maintain a productive partnership with the Ministry of Health and its agencies, ensuring that legislative oversight translates into tangible improvements in healthcare delivery across the state.
