Tinubu’s Choice of Alakawa for Lower Niger River Basin Excites Farmers

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has been hailed for confirming the appointment of Hon. Gidado Abdullateef Alakawa as Chairman of the Lower Niger River Basin Development Authority (LNRBDA), which oversees Kwara and Kogi states.

Coordinator of the Rice Farmers Association of Nigeria (RIFAN), Kwara State Chapter, Mallam Mohammed Salihu, described Alakawa’s appointment as a “well-deserved” recognition of his competence and experience.

According to Salihu, the new chairman’s background as a former Special Adviser on Strategy and Political Affairs and Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development under Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has equipped him with the necessary expertise to lead the authority effectively.

“We have no doubt that Hon. Alakawa will bring his wealth of experience to bear in aligning LNRBDA’s activities with President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda,” he said.

Salihu noted that the appointment reflects the administration’s commitment to placing capable hands in key positions to drive agricultural development, particularly in Kwara and Kogi states.

He also commended Governor AbdulRazaq for supporting the inclusion of distinguished Kwara indigenes in strategic national roles.

“This appointment is part of a broader effort by President Tinubu to restructure the 12 river basin authorities across the country, ensuring they contribute meaningfully to food security through modern irrigation initiatives,” Salihu added.
