NILDS DG Tasks Kwara Political Stakeholders on Accountability, Fairness
The Director-General of the National Institute of Legislative and Democratic Studies (NILDS), Prof. Abubakar Olanrewaju Sulaiman, has urged political stakeholders in Kwara State to integrate religious values into governance to promote accountability and fairness.
Speaking at a public lecture organized by Educated Youths in Kwara Politics in Ilorin, Prof. Sulaiman, popularly known as Amana, emphasized that youth participation in politics should be guided by competence and a commitment to good governance.
“The future of Kwara is in our hands, especially the youths. You must be proactive in shaping the state’s destiny,” he said. “Religion must be connected to politics because true believers prioritize the public good over personal gain and uphold integrity in governance.”
He encouraged young people to focus on building a future where employment opportunities are readily available, and essential social services are accessible.
“You must be intentional about leadership choices in the coming years. A prosperous future requires leaders with sincerity and a strong moral compass,” he added.
Prof. Sulaiman commended Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s achievements in infrastructure development while also acknowledging contributions from past governors.
However, he stressed that Kwara’s progress hinges on electing honest and dedicated leaders.
In his sermon at the event, Islamic scholar Sheikh Luqman Isalekoto advised youths to prioritize personal development, noting that it enhances their capacity to contribute meaningfully when entrusted with leadership responsibilities.
“As a youth, self-improvement is key. It makes you a valuable asset in governance,” he stated. “Be creative, visionary, and always present yourself well. Prof. Sulaiman himself was known for making intellectual contributions to national development from his early days as a lecturer.”
He further urged politicians and public officeholders to uphold justice and prioritize the welfare of the people, ensuring governance that truly serves the masses.
