The Nigerian Youth Parliament Alumni Forum has expressed concern over the ongoing dispute between Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, calling for respect, constructive dialogue, and inclusive governance in legislative affairs.

The forum, in a statement signed by its Convening President, Rt. Hon. Ayodele John Obe, and Convening Secretary, Hon. (Dr.) Abdulrahman Umar Etudaye, emphasized the need for all parties to prioritize national interest and uphold decorum in the Senate.

“As a neutral and impartial body, we believe that meaningful discussions and respectful communication are crucial in resolving conflicts and maintaining a positive legislative environment,” the statement read.

The group commended Senate President Akpabio for his diplomatic handling of the situation and urged the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Public Petitions to reconsider the six-month suspension of Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan.

They emphasized the importance of gender inclusivity and respect for women in leadership, noting that the Senate should set an example for democratic engagement.

The forum also reaffirmed its support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, highlighting his administration’s focus on economic growth, poverty eradication, and food security.

“We urge all Nigerians, particularly the youth, to remain calm and respectful in their interactions, even in times of disagreement. A positive legislative environment is key to national progress, and we must all work towards fostering growth and development,” the statement added.

The Nigerian Youth Parliament Alumni Forum reiterated its commitment to supporting national unity and governance built on dialogue and mutual respect.
