The Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN), Kwara branch, has cautioned motorists on speeding during the yuletide season, especially in cloudy weather conditions, to ensure safety on the roads.

Onikijipa, who is also the Chairman of Trade Union Congress (TUC) in Kwara, advised motorists to exercise caution while on the wheel, especially its members, during the “ever busy yuletide season”.
“The weather is always cloudy during the yuletide.
The road is not always totally visble, especially with the weather which persisits early in the morning during this season.
“Beware of the cloudy weather and avoid overspeeding. Avoid rushing and drive within the prescribed speed limits.
” Leave your place early to avoid any unnecessary rush. Your safety is paramount,” he said.
The chairman also advised motorists to shun alcohol or any form of hard substances that might affect their mental health.
He advised drivers to be natural and sensitive to the traffic rules and regulations for safety.
According to Onikijipa, motorists should properly check the condition of their cars before embarking on any journey.
“Take your cars to an expert for proper servicing. Don’t overlook any fault before embarking on a journey.
“No fault is minor. Don’t take any risk while planning to travel. Be hundred per cent sure your car is good to go,” he said.
He, however advised motorists to be safety conscious and avoid being careless on the wheel.
