Lower your pride, learn a skill – NYSC tells corps members
The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has called on all corps members across the country to lower their pride and learn a skill so as to become employers of labour.
Mrs Rifkatu Yakubu, the Bauchi state Coordinator of NYSC made the call on Thursday during the distribution of certificates of national service to the 2023 Batch C stream II corps members in the state.
According to her, this is imperative amidst scarce white collar jobs, calling on those who had learned a skill to effectively build on it.
“Let us not deceive ourselves, holding on to that certificate looking for jobs day and night is so frustrating.
“Don’t go and sit at home expecting a job, disturbing your parents and some of you will say I’m a graduate, how can I go and do a paticular business. There is no pride in business.
“If you go out there, you will see graduates riding motorcycles and tricycles and that is their business and they are making a lot of money from it.
“So, please, lower your pride and learn a skill. If you haven’t learned one, it is not too late to do so,” she said.
Yakubu also called on the corps members receiving their certificates of national service not to join bad groups like cultism, kidnapping, yahoo yahoo among others.
She urged them to be good ambassadors of their families, school of graduation as well as the NYSC.
A total of 1,710 corps members consisting of 1,085 males and 625 females received their Certificates of national service.
