Insecurity: Lawmaker Urges Kwara Traditional Rulers To Take Proactive measures
A member of the House of Representatives, Mr. Tijanni Ismail, has called on traditional rulers and relevant stakeholders to take proactive measures in safeguarding their communities from criminal elements terrorizing their areas.
The Lawmaker representing Offa, Oyun and Ifelodun Federal Constituency of Kwara made the call in Idofian, during a Sensitization and Orientation session for Community Leaders and Youth on Peace and Security threatening peaceful atmosphere of the Areas.
The theme of the programme is entitled: “Building a People of Peace”, organised by the Office of the Director General of the National Orientation Agency, (NOA), Malam Isa Onilu.
Onilu expressed dissatisfaction on the spate of security threat in the Kwara South, however, commended the State Governor Malam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for his proactiveness towards addressing the security challenges facing the area.
He emphasized the need for unity among community leaders, religious leaders, security agencies, and the people Kwara South to effectively combat the rising cases of criminal activities in the region.
Earlier in his address, the Director General of the National Orientation Agency, Malam Isa lanre Onilu, Identified peace as the bedrock of international cooperation.
Onilu, who was represented by
the State Director of the Agency, Alhaji Dare Abdulganiyu called on mischief makers threatening peaceful atmosphere of Kwara South and it’s environs to desist from such acts.
He added that the emotional and psychological well-being of individuals is tied to peace.
The Director of the Agency stressed the need for the people of Kwara South to champions of peace and work closely together to build a society where peace is not just a distant ideal but a lived reality.
Also Speaking, the All Progressive Congress Chairman in Kwara Prince Sunday Fagbemi, reaffirmed the commitment of the State Governor, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq to flushed out the criminal elements in Kwara South and other part of the state.
He pointed out that, the Governor has ensure Military presence in Kwara South to curb security challenges in the area.
Speaking on behalf of Traditional Rulers in Kwara South, the Olusin, of Isanlu Isin, Oba Solomon Oloyede, called for constitutional role for Traditional Rulers in the Country in order to perform their responsibility to effectively.
Representatives of both Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and the Nigeria Police , expressed their readiness to ensure peace return to the areas
Highlights of the Meeting was presentation of Motorcycles to various security outfits in the axis to ease their movements in curbing the security challenges facing the areas.
