Trump Calls for Preemptive Strike on Iran’s Nuclear
Former President Donald Trump is calling for Israel to cripple Iran by going after its clandestine nuclear programme.
“I listened to Biden yesterday and they asked him, what do you think about Iran, would you hit Iran and he goes ‘as long as they don’t hit the nuclear stuff,’” Trump said at a campaign event in North Carolina on Friday. “That’s the thing you want to hit, right?”
“I think he’s got that one wrong, isn’t that the one you’re supposed to hit,” he continued. “It’s the biggest risk we have, nuclear weapons.”
Earlier this week Iran launched 200 ballistic missiles into Israel. Although the attack resulted in just one fatality, Israel has vowed to retaliate and has received President Biden’s blessing to do so.
However, the Biden administration has included its usual calls for restraint, with the president specifically warning Israel against striking Iran’s nuclear facilities.
“His answer should have been ‘strike nuclear first, worry about the rest later,’” Trump retorted. “I rebuilt the entire military, jets, and I built it, including nuclear power. I hated building nuclear power, but I knew firsthand the power of that stuff, and I’ll tell you what: We must be absolutely prepared. We must be absolutely prepared.”
Trump’s aggressive posture on Iran and unwavering support for Israel continues to be a key feature of his 2024 presidential campaign. During his previous tenure in office, he withdrew the US from the disastrous Iran nuclear deal and imposed harsh sanctions on Iran’s tyrannical regime.
Unlike any president before him, Trump recognized Jerusalem as the capital of the one and only Jewish State in 2017 and moved the US Embassy there a year later.
He also brokered the historic Abraham Accords in 2020 which led to normalizing relations between Israel and several Middle East Arab states including the UAE, Bahrain, Sudan, and Morocco.
