Ighodalo Floors Okpebolo At Obaseki’s Polling Unit
The governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Asue Ighodalo, has defeated the candidate of All Progressives Congress (APC), Monday Okpebholo, at the polling unit of Governor Godwin Obaseki.
According to the result announced At polling unit PU19, ward 04, Oredo LGA, PDP garnered 127 votes against APC that got 35.
The Labour Party (LP) came third with 11 votes.
It was gathered that the outgoing governor of the state, Obaseki all through the campaign season had endorsed Ighodalo as his successor.
In a related development, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has commenced uploading the results from the Saturday, September 21 governorship election in Edo State onto its Result Viewing Portal.
As at the time of filing this report, 205 results out of 4,519 polling units where elections were conducted in the state have been uploaded to the portal by INEC
It would be recalled that the Edo Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Anugbum Onuoha, had revealed that the ongoing governorship election results will be transmitted electronically.
According to Onuoha, only poor network can stop the electronic transmission of results.
In an interview with Arise Television on Saturday, Onuoha emphasized that INEC has prepared for contingencies by providing 660 backup Bimodal Voter Accreditation Systems (BVAS).
Onuoha further detailed the process, stating that the BVAS will be used to accredit voters and determine the total number of participants at each polling unit.
