Kwara State Police Restricts Movement Ahead of Local Government Elections

 

 

Ilorin, Kwara State, 19th September 2024 – The Kwara State Police Command has announced the implementation of stringent security measures, including the restriction of vehicular movement, ahead of the upcoming Local Government Elections.

The restriction will be in effect from 12:00 AM to 6:00 PM on Saturday, 21st September 2024. This measure is aimed at ensuring a peaceful and secure environment for the conduct of the elections.

In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Toun Ejire-Adeyemi, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, CP Victor Olaiya, residents were urged to comply with the directive.

“We urge all residents to comply with this directive,” the statement read, stressing that violators would face legal consequences.

Exemptions will be granted to essential service providers, accredited electoral officials, media personnel, observers, and emergency responders.

However, armed security personnel on VIP escort duties are barred from accompanying their principals to polling stations.

CP Olaiya reaffirmed the command’s commitment to ensuring that the elections are free, fair, and peaceful, while calling for the cooperation of all residents in maintaining peace throughout the exercise.
