Group Urges Kwara Govt. to Dismantle Gen. Idiagbon Flyover

 

The Kwara Concerned Group has called on the State government to consider the prospect of dismantling the abandoned Gen.Tunde Idiagbon flyover at Tanke inorder to give precedence to the wellbeing of the populace.

The Chairman of the group, Mr David Olusegun made the call on Thursday during a Press Conference held on the flyover in Tanke, Ilorin.

Olusegun said the failure of Gov Abdul Rahman AbdulRazaq to commission the nearly three years project for public use calls for concern.

According to him, the initial 12-month completion period has been extended multiple times without cogent reasons which steered deep concerns about the management and oversight of the project.

” The unsettling situation has gave rise to profound questions about transparency, due process and the overall quality of work being conducted on this pivotal infrastructure project.

” The contract for the construction of this flyover was awarded to a less known local company,JMK Construction Company Limited, for a substantial sum of N2,272,899,200.00, with a completion timeline of 12 months.

” Should genuine safety apprehensions hinder the unveiling of the flyover, the government should give precedence to the well-being of it’s populace and consider the prospect of dismantling the structure, if necessary,” he said.

The chairman also said there is first hand observations from concerned citizens and stakeholders of troubling indication of compromised quality and safety of the flyover due to substandard workmanship and integrity of the structure.

The group urged the government to accord precedence to the welfare and safety of it’s populace and expeditiously address the issues surrounding Tanke flyover.

Olusegun also said the flyover was purposely erected to ease traffic congestion and enhancing transportation infrastructure in the Ilorin metropolis but now served as figure head and useless for the masses.

” The flyover which lead to the foremost University of Ilorin has been in standstill and never for once serve it’s purpose.

” The citizens of Kwara are entitled to have confidence in the probity and calibre of public infrastructure undertakings, and the Gen.Tunde Idiagbon flyover is no exemption.

” We the Kwara concerned group call on Gov. AbdulRasaq to act fast on the non-functional flyover in Tanke,” he said.
