Nigerian Activist, Sowore, Arrested by DSS, Released Minutes Later

 

Nigerian activist, Omoyele Sowore, was arrested by the Department of State Services (DSS) at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos on Sunday.

Sowore, who is the convener of the #RevolutionNow Movement, had just arrived from the United States, where he has been with his family.

SaharaReporters had earlier reported that the DSS had instructed airport security and immigration authorities to intercept and detain Sowore upon his arrival in Nigeria,citing Sowore’s role in the recent #EndBadGovernance protests.

Sowore had been vocal about his plans to return to Nigeria and continue his activism, despite the threat of arrest.

In a recent interview, he revealed that he had received credible intelligence that his name had been submitted to airport security personnel for arrest.

The arrest has sparked concern among human rights activists and supporters of Sowore.

Meanwhile,Sowore, who was presidential candidate of the African Action Congress in the 2023 elections, Omoyele Sowore, has been released minutes after his arrest.

PUNCH Online earlier reported that Sowore was arrested on Sunday morning at Murtala Muhammad International Airport in Ikeja, Lagos State.

He wrote, “I had just arrived in Nigeria from the USA at MMIA in Lagos; upon reaching Nigerian Immigration, my passport was seized, and they told me they had orders to detain me.
