Kwara College of Education Oro launches skills acquisition programme for students

The Kwara College of Education, Oro, has begun training of students on skills acquisition as a way of preparing them for business career and to be employers of labour after graduation.
The Director of Skill Acquisition and Linkages at College, Mr Musbau Abdulkareem disclosed this on Monday while addressing News men in Oro.
Kareem said the center was designed for training all category of students both in NCE and Degree programme in various skills.
The Director said the programme was initiated by the intervention of Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND) since 2021 and began operation in 2024.
He said TETFUND through it’s intervention donated Entrepreneurship center, furnished show room, industrial & buddy machine for sewing, hair dryer, cobbler machine, bowl, comb among other equipment to kick start the training.
According to him, students are trained on different skills such as; Berbbing or haircut, hair dressing, shoe making,paint making, catering, event planning and decoratiom, soap making among others.
The director called on the residents of Kwara state to patronise the College products which he said are available at affordable prices.
” We have kick start the training program and we receive positive response from our students. They show much passion which make the training become easy and productive.
” We make it compulsory for all students. They also key into the idea of learning new skills.
” We want to instill in them, skills that will make them become employer of labour in the future.
” We are changing their mindset not to rely on white collar job that is not available,” he said.
The Director, however, advised the students of the College to embrace the opportunity and become a testifier to the success of the programme.
Abdulkareem commended the Provost of the college, Prof.Mukaila Aremu, the Registrar, Dr Abdulkareem Amuda-kanike and the college management for their support towards the success of the program.
He also commended TETFUND for the initiative and support to build a better and valuable graduates who will become a job creator rather than job seekers.
