New Commissioner For Environment Calls for Support
The newly redeployed Commissioner for Environment, Hajia Nafisat Buge has called for the support and cooperation of staff in the ministry towards achieving the mandate given to her by Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq to ensure clean environment, across the state.
The Commissioner made the call during an interactive session with the staff of the ministry and agencies, held today at the conference hall.
This is contained in a statement signed by Yakub Kamaldeen Aliagan, Press Secretary,
Ministry of Environment and made available to newsmen in Ilorin.
Hajjia Buge said, “I am highly impressed with the dedication and commitment of ministry staff towards sustaining clean and hygienic environment in the state, most especially, in Ilorin metropolis.
“Your efforts at maintaining a cleaner environment in Kwara State can not be overemphasized and this has contributed immensely to preventing the spread of Cholera outbreak, as experienced by some states in the country.”
The Commissioner therefore charged staff not to relent at sustaining a clean and hygienic environment in the state.
Buge appreciated Governor AbdulRazaq for giving her the opportunity to serve the state, reiterating her commitments to achieving a better Kwara, under the current administration.
She then promised to prioritize the welfare of staff, especially the field workers, working tirelessly to achieve cleaner Kwara.
On environmental offenders, the Commissioner said more advocacy will be employed to sensitise the public on the need to join hands with Governor AbdulRazaq’s led administration, in a bid to eradicate indiscriminate dumping of refuse, illegal felling of trees and other activities capable of contributing to Environment degradation, in the state.
Earlier in his comment, the permanent secretary, ministry of Environment, Alhaji Abubakar Ayinla welcomed the Commissioner, pledging the unalloyed support of ministry staff, to the new Commissioner to enable her achieve the mandate given to her by the governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.
Also in their separate remarks, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Environmental Protection, Mallam Muhammad Muazu and the Special Assistant on Non-Governmental Affairs, Mallam Ahmed Babakano appreciated His Excellency for redeploying Hajia Buge as the new Commissioner for Environment, assuring that her wealth of experiences will add values immensely to the sustainability of a cleaner environment in Kwara State and Nigeria at large.
The two SAs assured the Commissioner of maximum support, in her efforts to take the ministry to greater heights.
Government Officials in attendance at the inter face were: the Coordinator, Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL), Alhaji Shamsudeen Aregbesola, Acting General Manager, Kwara State Environmental Protection Agency, Hajia Idayat Folorunsho, Directors and other Principal officers from the Ministry among others.
