Kwara Workers Join National Strike
Workers in Kwara State have embarked on a sit-at-home strike, joining their counterparts across Nigeria to demand a salary increase.
The strike has grounded government offices, schools, courts, and other institutions in Ilorin and its environs.
Comrade Murtala Olayinka, Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in Kwara State, expressed satisfaction with the high level of compliance during a inspection tour.
He noted that the strike’s success shows that workers are tired of the status quo and urged the government to address their demands to alleviate their suffering.
To prevent potential hijacking of the protest, the union adopted the sit-at-home strategy.
Comrade Abdulrahman Onikijipa, Chairman of the Trade Union Congress (TUC) in Kwara, pledged solidarity with the NLC, stating that both unions will work together to ensure the strike’s success. The unions chose the sit-at-home approach to make the strike more effective.
The strike has brought government activities to a standstill, with workers refusing to work until their demands are met.
The unions are demanding a salary increase and improved working conditions. The situation remains peaceful, with workers staying at home in solidarity with the strike.
