Foundation Seeks Deepening Accountability of Govt.’s Projects in Kwara
Connected Development (CODE), a Non Governmental Organisation, has sought to deepen and institutionalise the accountability and sustainability in governance in Kwara through its ”Project Trust” project.
At the inauguration of the project on Thursday in Ilorin, CODE Community Engagement Officer, Barr. Ifunnaya Okeke, said the project seeks to rebuild trust in the government which will be done through institutionalising accountability systems across the six geo-political zones.
”Project Trust is aimed at deepening and institutionalising accountability, social inclusion systems and processes to promote resilience and sustainability in governance across the country.
”It also aims to create an existence of accountability system between the citizens and the government.
”In addition, it seeks to facilitate social inclusion systems by demanding account for the implementation of the Discrimination Against Persons With Disabilities (Prohibition) Act, 2018.
”The project which is not to witch hunt the government but to seek for accountability and effective service delivery will be held in Kwara, Jigawa, Osun, Bayelsa, Yobe and Anambra state,” she said.
Okeke added that the project would be carried out through the use of Community of Practice (CoP) members with adequate representation of women, men, youths and Persons With Disabilities (PWD) drawn from Kwara.
”The CoP comprised of 20 members made up of Civil Society Organisations, Community Based Organisations, Media, PWD and organisations focused on PWDs.
”The CoP will help in the implementation of the project to replicate the success recorded in Kaduna state three years ago.
Director, Legislative matter, Kwara House of Assembly, Alhaji Moshood Suleiman said the government would provide a level playing ground and an enabling environment for the project to be successfully implemented.
He further assured that the House of Assembly would enable legislation geared towards good governance.
In his remark, Chairman, Kwara Fiscal Responsibility Commission, Mr Abubakar Abdullahi also assured CODE of the commission’s commitment and willingness to create more awareness about government projects and governance.
The highlight of the event was swearing of an oath of allegiance of the CoP members as way of their inauguration and commitment to the project.
Other stakeholders at the inauguration include representatives of the Ministry of Water Resources, Planning and Education, CSOs and CBOs.
The Project Trust formulated in 2023 is a programme by CODE supported by McArthur Foundation.
