DG MINILS, Aremu Suggests Use of Gender to Allocate Political Offices

 

The Director General of Michael Imoudu National Institute for Labour Studies, (MINILS) Mr Issa Aremu has suggested that gender should be used for allocation into political office in Nigeria.

Aremu made the suggestion while speaking at the celebration of International Women’s Day by the institution.

He opined that gender should be used for allocation of positions instead of using geopolitical, religious and others to encourage women in the society.

The Director-General called on stakeholders to implement policies that seek to increase awareness on women participation in politics.

He explained that if a man becomes a governor, then a woman should automatically be the deputy governor.

Aremu advised on the need to make favourable economic policies, adding that women bear the brunt of economic hardship in the country.

He urged government at all levels to invest in women in order to have better society.

The D-G explained that the institute shifted the day marked every 8th of March, so as to allow key stakeholders partake in the event.

Speaking also, Mrs Victoria Adeola, the Chairperson Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) Women Wing, called for unity among women.

She charged the women in thier respective work to strive hard for the development of the nation.

In her Lecture, Dr Bolatito Brimah , the Head of Department (HOD) of Department of Business Administration Al-Hikmah University, Ilorin encouraged women to be brave to compete with men in the society.

According to her, women empowerment encompasses the economic, social and political empowerment which enables them to relaize thier full potential and participate fully in society.

” Women empowerment and trade unionism are inextricably linked, while the roles of women in trade unionism in Nigeria are also indispensable,” she said.
