NLC Restates Commitment To Demand Fair Wages For Workers
The Nigeria Labour Congress NLC says it will continue to make demands on the government for fair wages to workers in all sectors, especially in critical and sensitive ones to meet the current economic realities.
Kwara State NLC Chairman, Comrade Muritala Saheed-Olayinka stated this in Ilorin while speaking with newsmen shortly after his election as the National Vice President, North Central at the eleventh Quadrennial National Delegates Conference of the Medical and Health Workers Union of Nigeria themed “The Nigerian Health System in the Era of Economic Downturn: Challenges and Way Forward’’ held in Abuja,
Comrade Saheed-Olayinka noted that the nationwide protest was to call the attention of government to the biting hunger, mass suffering and poverty across the country advising government at all levels to address the sufferings of the masses.
The NLC Chairman called on the State governments to yield to the advice of President Bola Tinubu to give wage award to workers pending the final agreement on the new minimum wage.
Speaking on his election as the National Vice President, North Central of the Union, Comrade Saheed-Olayinka promised to run an open and transparent administration.
The Union Leader stated that workers will always move to where they are treated better adding that the japa syndrome was not in pursuit of better living standards but of self-actualisation and job satisfaction.
He charged the government to address the already poor equipment and general decay of infrastructure in the sector as well as the remuneration of workers.
Other Elected officers include Comrade Kabiru Ado-Sanni, National President , Comrade Goodluck Oforboruku, National Deputy President and Comrade Adebisi Oluwafemi, National Trustee.
