Reactions Trail FG’s Move To Upgrade Harmony Advanced Diagnostic Centre, Ilorin

Harmony Advanced Diagnostic Centre, Ilorin

Reactions have trailed the Federal Government’s recently announced inclusion of Harmony Advanced Diagnostic Centre, Ilorin, Kwara state among the health facilities to be upgraded across the country.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state have engaged in war of words on the announcement by the federal government.

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) commended President Bola Tinubu’s government for its decision to include Harmony Advanced Diagnostic Centre, Ilorin, a legacy project of the PDP government in Kwara State, among the health facilities slated for upgrading across the six geopolitical zones in Nigeria.

The party said “despite Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq’s persistent attempts to undermine all projects initiated by the Saraki/PDP administration, including his relentless efforts to kill Harmony Advanced Diagnostic Centre and other important Kwara projects, this action by the Federal Government further vindicates the PDP’s regime.

It underscores our commitment to establishing institutions for the progress of Kwara before Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s administration sets the state on a backward trajectory since his inception in 2019.”

A statement issued by the party’s Publicity Secretary, Olusegun Olusola Adewara (Sholyment), in Ilorin on Saturday, commended President Tinubu’s government for its approach in building upon the legacies of the PDP administration.

“This move by the federal government serves as a resounding disapproval of Governor Abdulrahman’s disruptive governance in Kwara State borne out of political envy , inferiority complex of the Governor occasioned by his unnecessary competition with Saraki’s political leadership and established that government must be seen as a continuous process by all political players who are interested in state building

“Furthermore, we call on President Tinubu to also explore revitalizing the Shonga Farm Holdings, Cargo Terminals at Ilorin Airport, Aviation College and the Water Reticulation agenda, all of which have unjustly suffered vicious attacks under the Abdulrahman-led government and are at the brinks of collapse solely because they were initiated by the PDP/Saraki’s administration.

“It is imperative to recognize that the vision behind Shonga farm is to establish Kwara state as a hub of mechanized farming capable of contributing to food security and producing farm products in commercial quantity, especially in this challenging time facing our country.

“Similarly, the Cargo terminal at Ilorin Airport was strategically put in place by the Saraki-led PDP administration to play a pivotal role in facilitating cross-border businesses, particularly as Kwara was transitioning to an industrial state.

“It is disheartening to witness this visionary project being substituted with mundane tailor shop where sewing machines, procured at inflated prices, are stored by the AbdulRahman Government to decieve people of Kwara and divert taxpayer’s money as no meaningful progress has been made since completion of the project.

“In conclusion, we advise Governor AbdulRahman to shelve his arrogance and humbly seek insight from his predecessors, who have all demonstrated commendable performance in governance.

“It is instructive to note that promising institution such as Harmony Holdings, Kwara Express, Soludero Transport scheme , Kwara hotel and others that have been ruined by AbdulRahman’s disruptive governance are all agencies providing jobs for Kwara people and contributing to social wellbeing of the state

“It is our hope that the Governor utilizes the remaining part of his tenure to retrace his steps by taking moves at rectifying the wrongs and prevent Kwara from further deterioration under his administration’s watch,” the party declared.

However, in a reaction, the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kwara said history will remember Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, a patriot, as the Federal Government announced on Friday the inclusion of Harmony Advanced Diagnostic Centre, Ilorin, among the health facilities to be upgraded across the country.

The party’s Publicity Secretary Alhaji Folaranmi Aro in a statement signed and issued to newsmen on Saturday, said it was unique of the governor who is also the chairman of the Nigerian Governors’ Forum (NGF) to push for the upgrade of the health facility despite being one of the projects initiated by the former administration in the state, thereby saving it from extinction.

Alhaji Folaranmi Aro added that the facility had been set up to fail like many of their other legacy projects including Cargo terminals, Shonga Farm Holdings, and phantom water reticulation due to pervasive corruption and greed by former leaders who had merely used the projects to milk the treasury, without proper funding. He also noted that the health facility never declared profit and did not remit a single kobo to the coffers of the state since it commenced operation in 2013.

“The inclusion of HADC for upgrading is a plus to the administration. It further credentialed Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq as a patriot who puts humanity over politics. The Governor would never let any project go to rots because he values public funds and priorities the welfare of the people,” Aro said.

“This distinct selflessness was one of the reasons the people trust and respect him as their leader. It is also a reminder of why the PDP have now been rejected in two election cycles and they can’t be trusted with power ever again. They are unrepentant abusers of privilege.

“The government is patriotically making that place a hub of medical diagnosis. The same complex is housing the Cancer Centre which this administration attracted. The choice of the facility to house the FG initiative is at the instance of the Governor who, unlike Bukola Saraki who killed the legacies of his predecessors in an effort to make Kwara his serfdom, has continued to protect all public investments since 1967. That is the action of a patriot, unlike the little minds who feel that carving the state in their own image is the way to build a legacy.

“Kwara PDP may be shameless that majority of their legacy projects crumbled and were buried even in the life of the dynasty. What Kwarans will not accept is an attempt to rewrite the history and ungratefulness to the man who is fixing their mess.

“Governor AbdulRazaq-led administration inherited collapsed machines and backlogs of obligations at the diagnostic centre. He injected funds for its revitalisation to procure new machines as well as repaired some existing ones in both the laboratory and radiological sections of the centre.

“The list of machines included Auto Chemistry Analyser, FIA Meter Plus, 2-Channel Coagulation Analyser, Electrolyte Analyser, Haematology Analyser (5-part), and Electrophoretic Machine.

” The CT Scan 16 Slice Machine and Mammography Machine, Fluoroscopy Machine, X-ray Machine and Ultrasound Machine were all repaired. On top of these, the outstanding salaries of staff during the operational downtime of the centre were also cleared all in a bid to save another mismanaged public facility from extinction.”

“While thanking President Bola Tinubu for the positive collaboration with the administration in the state, Aro said the new investment by the federal government at the centre complement the renewed efforts of the administration to deepen access to health and affordable healthcare services for people of the state.”

It would be recalled that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu recently approved the immediate upgrade of key health infrastructure and equipment across all six geo-political zones in line with his administration’s vision of overhauling the health and social welfare sector for enhanced service delivery to all Nigerians.

Special Adviser to the President Media & Publicity, Chief Ajuri Ngelale disclosed this in a statement signed and made available to journalists in Abuja on Friday.

He quoted the president as saying that upgrading health infrastructure and equipment is a top priority of President Tinubu’s Health Sector Renewal Investment Initiative.

To advance this landmark effort, the president added,Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, in collaboration with the Nigeria Sovereign Investment Authority (NSIA) would carry out the comprehensive upgradation of cancer-treatment infrastructure and other critical developments in six tertiary hospitals across several geopolitical zones.

This, Tinubu said would be in addition to the full renovation and expansion of prior investments to improve broad-based access to high-quality healthcare in all six geo-political zones of the federation.

He said:”The following teaching hospitals across geo-political zones have been marked for the establishment of oncology and nuclear medicine centres per facility as part of President Tinubu’s bid to ensure that world class cancer diagnosis and care is accessible across the country:

University of Benin Teaching Hospital

Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital

Federal Teaching Hospital, Katsina

University of Jos Teaching Hospital

Lagos University Teaching Hospital

“The following ten critical health care service expansion projects across the fields of radiology, clinical pathology, medical and radiation oncology, and cardiac catheterization will be carried out in ten hospitals across all geo-political zones:

These critical projects, set to be delivered within 12-18 months, will improve screening and diagnostics for communicable and non-communicable diseases; reduce mortality rates and improve outcomes for non-communicable diseases; create considerable employment opportunities for clinical, administrative, and managerial personnel across Nigeria’s six geo-political zones, all while building the capacity of clinical personnel in advanced procedures, diagnostics and treatment modalities, in accordance with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu.”
