Bauchi Community Lauds NYSC Medical Outreach

People in Kafiromi village in Gamawa Local Government Area of Bauchi state have commended the management and members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) for conducting a free medical outreach in the community.

Speaking on behalf of the residents of the community at the flag-off of the one-day outreach on Friday, the caretaker Chairman of the LGA, Nasiru Bakura thanked the NYSC for bringing the medical outreach to a community in the LGA.

Hecalled on the people to take advantage of the opportunity provided by the outreach to supply valid information requested by the medical personnel to enable them to make the right diagnosis and treatment.

Also speaking, the District Head of Gamawa, Alh Adamu Abdulkadir applauded the NYSC management for coming up with the programme and urged the people to conduct themselves in an orderly manner to reap the full benefits of the outreach.

He was represented by the Galadiman Gamawa, Alh Muhammad Kaku.

In her speech, the state coordinator of NYSC, Mrs Rifkatu Yakubu, explained that the outreach was initiated under the NYSC Health Initiative for Rural Dwellers (HIRD).

According to her, the programme was designed to enhance access to quality healthcare service delivery in hard-to-reach and rural communities across the country.

She explained that Youth Corps members with backgrounds in the medical profession were drawn from various facilities where they were undertaking the one-year national service for this assignment.

“I want to assure that the medical corps members were well-equipped with drugs and medical consumables to execute the task optimally,” she said.

Yakubu, who added that outreach was open to more than 500 members of the community, highlighted some of the ailments to be attended to as malaria, typhoid, hypertension, diarrhea, cholera, diabetes, among others.

She however, noted that any other ailment that cannot be handled by the Corps’ Medical Volunteers would be referred to a more competent hospital for treatment.
