Supreme Court Upholds Uba Sani’s Election As Kaduna Governor, Rep Speaker Reacts
The Supreme Court has upheld the election of Uba Sani of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the Governor of Kaduna State.
A five-member panel of the court, in a unanimous judgment on Friday, held that the appeal by Mohammed Ashiru Isah of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was without merit.
Justice Tijjani Abubakar, who read the lead judgment, held that the appeal was unmeritorious, the appellants having failed to comply with the provision of Paragraph 18(1) and (3) of the First Schedule to the Electoral Act 2022 in relation to the filing of pre-hearing notice at the tribunal.
Meanwhile, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajudeen said on Friday, January 19, that the judgement of the Supreme Court affirming the victory of Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna was a confirmation of his popularity across the state.
The Speaker congratulated Governor Sani over his legal victory at the Supreme Court.
The apex court had on Friday affirmed Governor Sani as the duly elected governor of Kaduna state during the 2023 general elections.
Speaker Abbas said he had always known that Governor Sani’s popularity in Kaduna and the massive support given to him at the polls were organic and borne out of genuine love for him.
He expressed hope that Governor Uba Sani, a former senator for Kaduna Central, will now focus more on good governance of the state.
