Kwara Fire Service Averts Disaster On Boxing Day: Swift Response Saves Ilorin from LPG Tanker Leak
Kwara State Fire Service on Tuesday avert fire disaster on a tanker, bearing registration number KW 117 XB and transporting 20 tons of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), which was reported to be leaking profusely at Gbagba area, Airport road, Ilorin.
This is contained in a statement signed by Hassan Adekunle, the Head of Department, Media and Publicity, Kwara Fire Service and made available to newsmen in Ilorin.
On Boxing Day, December 26, 2023, at approximately 06:41 hours, the Kwara State Fire Service swiftly responded to an urgent alert. A tanker, bearing registration number KW 117 XB and transporting 20 tons of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), was reported to be leaking profusely at Gbagba area, Airport road, Ilorin.
“The fire crew promptly departed from the station, upon arrival, discovered a loose valve on the tanker causing the hazardous leakage.
“Initiating their operation, they efficiently cooled the tank, enabling the tanker driver to close the valve. Despite these efforts, a noticeable leakage persisted, prompting the fire crew to accompany the tanker to its destination, Imam Filling Station, to avert any potential disasters.
“The Kwara State Fire Service personnel ensured the safe syphoning of the LPG, ” he said.
The Director of the Kwara State Fire Service commended his team for their swift and commendable response. Furthermore, he urged the general public to prioritize safety, extending Christmas and New Year wishes in advance.
