Subsidy: Labour Demands N35,000 Wage Award For Kwara Workers

The Joint Kwara Labour Congress has demanded the implementation of an N35,000 wage award for all categories of workers in the state as a measure to cushion the attendant hardship of subsidy withdrawal on Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) otherwise known as petrol.

The labour movement said its demand was in line with the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) reached between the federal government and the organized labour following the fuel subsidy removal.

This was contained in a statement issued in Ilorin and jointly signed by the trio of Chairman, state council of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Muritala Saheed Olayinka; his counterpart in Trade Union Congress (TUC), Comrade Tunde Joseph; and state Chairman, Joint Negotiation Council (JNC), Comrade Saliu Oluwole Suleiman.

The state organized labour noted that it was constrained to remind the state government due to its refusal to attend to the demands of the workers, thus heightening fear of likely industrial unrest.

The joint statement called on the state government to domesticate and implement a 40 per cent peculiar allowance for workers across the state as approved and provided for workers in federal employment.

It also sought the implementation of consequential adjustments for pensioners and weigh-in allowance for workers in the state-owned media houses.

The labour movement pleaded with the state government for the payment of local government workers’ outstanding arrears in the state.

It demanded the implementation of a 100 per cent Consolidated Health Salary Structure (CONHESS) and a 100 per cent hazard allowance for health workers in the state and local government areas.

The joint statement urged the state government to look into the outstanding arrears of promotion for 2021, 2022 and 2023 of all categories of workers in the state.

It, however, called on Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq to expedite action on the demands of the organized labour for Kwara State workers.
