RTEAN Warns Members Against Drinking While Driving

 

The Chairman of the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN), Kwara Branch, Alhaji AbdulRahman Olayinka-Onikijipa has warned members to desist from consuming anything that can intoxicate them while driving.

Onikijipa, who gave the warning in Ilorin on Friday in an interview said motorists should embrace safety measures and stop taking hard substances before taking off.

He advised members to be disciplined and mind what they consume as the busy festive season approaches.

“Desist from anything that can intoxicate you. Be safety conscious on the wheel.

” We are already in the festive period. Avoid taking alcohol, hard drugs are anything that will intoxicate you.

” Any mistake from a driver can cause a big havoc and loss of innocent lives. Be self-disciplined,” he appealed.

 

 

He said RTEAN members have been thoroughly sensitized on safety ahead of the festive season.

According to him, RTEAN already liaised with NAFDAC, and NDLEA to sensitize its members on narcotics.

Onikijipa urged members and road users to observe enough rest when they observe fatigue on their bodies.

He said the cloudy weather is dangerous and should be thoroughly observed while driving.

” We are in a season of cloudy weather. We need to exercise caution and not overspend. The weather may not be clear at far distance.

” Exercise caution and don’t underrate the weather system. Always consider others while driving,” he said.

He, however, wished motorists and the public, a happy Christmas and New Year celebration in advance.
