Dangote Cement Partners Stakeholders on Food Safety

The Dangote Cement Plc, Obajana, Kogi State is collaborating with stakeholders and communities to enhance food hygiene and safety.
The three-day awareness programme, organized by the medical team of the Dangote Cement Plc (DCP) Obajana Plant, sought to create awareness for food handlers from DCP Obajana and the host communities namely Oyo, Iwa, Apata and Obajana.
Speaking at the three-day programme, Dr Adewale Akinola of DCP Obajana said the sensitization campaign was meant to support government efforts in the prevention of food poisoning and food-borne diseases.
He said good personal hygiene, proper food storage and avoidance of contamination of prepared meals by raw food were central to the overall health of host communities.
He identified the objectives of the programme to include: Education of food handlers concerning personal hygiene, food handling, Carrying out pre-engagement and routine medical screening for food handlers, enlightening on health challenges such as wounds, otitis media, respiratory infections and identifying pathological laboratory findings for corrective therapy and health counsels before engaging them in food handling.
The programme was organized by the DCP Obajana Medical team led by Dr Olufemi Adebayo in collaboration with the DCP Obajana Community Affairs Department led by Mr Adeyemi Ademola who was represented by Mr Sunday Ajayi.
Only recently, Africa’s foremost philanthropist, Aliko Dangote, pledged to support the Federal Government’s National Health Sector Renewal Investment Initiative (NHSRII) launched at the Presidential Villa, Abuja as part of events to mark Universal Health Coverage Day.
Speaking at the multi-stakeholder Health Sector Renewal Compact event, the Managing Director of Aliko Dangote Foundation (ADF), Mrs Zouera Youssoufou, reiterated the foundation’s continued support for human capital development in Nigeria and expressed the Foundation’s support for the new Initiative.
Mrs Youssoufou said: “I would like to reiterate the absolute commitment of the Aliko Dangote Foundation to improving health outcomes in our beloved Nigeria. As a Nigerian organization, this is our home.
“Thank you, Mr. President, for prioritizing health and increasing funding for health. I would encourage the States to do the same and to release their funding in a timely fashion.
“This new sector-wide approach is an opportunity to focus on key issues and hold us all accountable to our commitments.”
