Kwara House Committee on Agric Hails SUPIA on Agric Budget Monitoring

 

 

The Kwara House of Assembly Committee on Agriculture has commended the Scaling Up Public Investment in Agriculture (SUPIA) and other stakeholders for its close monitoring of the Agriculture budget in the state.

Chairman House Committee on Agriculture and Natural Resources, Mr Gideon Saba gave the commendation on Thursday in Ilorin when he received SUPIA Budget Committee Group (BCG) on a parliamentary briefing session.

The SUPIA team (funded by ActionAid Nigeria and implemented by Centre for Community Empowerement and Poverty Eradication, CCEPE) were with the Small Scale Women Farmers Organization in Nigeria (SWOFON).

Mr Saba said the report of the Analysis of the 2023 Agriculture Budget submitted to the committee by the group would be used as a guide to engage the Ministry of Agriculture during the defense of the 2024 Agriculture Budget.

He equally commended SUPIA CCEPE/BCG and SWOFON for their commitment to the development of the Agriculture sector of Kwara and promised his unwaivering support for their activities.

Earlier in his remarks, the SUPIA BCG Coordinator, Abdulrahman Ayuba, commended the House Committee for granting their request for Parliamentary briefing.

Ayuba who is also the Executive Director, CCEPE stated that the SUPIA project was designed to scale up public investment in agriculture through budget commitment to drive inclusive and sustainable agricultural transformation at the national and state level.

He explained that the SUPIA BCG which is made up of various Agriculture inclined Non-Governmental Organisations (NGO) do analyse the state agriculture budget annually.

Atuba said they were in the House to present the analysis of the 2023 Agriculture Budget to the House Committee to help in their engagement of the various MDAs that deals with Agriculture during the 2024 budget defense of the MDAs.

He condoled the House on the death of a former two time member of the Federal House of Representatives from the State, late Yahaya Yunusa who died on Wednesday.
