Gov. Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State on Sunday inaugurated the dualisation of an 11-kilometre federal government road in Ningi Local Government Area of the state awarded at the cost of N10.3 billion.
Speaking during the inauguration ceremony, Governor Mohammed said that the road dualisation would take place from Ningi Government Secondary School to the Gudduba community.
According to him, the construction and dualisation of this road was not only important to the people of Ningi Emirate but to commuters plying the road as it serves as a gateway to Kano, Jigawa states and the entire Northwest sub-region.
The governor explained that when completed, the project would significantly transform the lives of thousands of residents of the state.
He added that the project would also provide essential infrastructure to ameliorate the transportation difficulties by the people in the state who faced challenges in transporting their agricultural produce to the markets.
Mohammed further said that in the course of the construction, the project would create direct jobs for engineers, labourers, and artisans and indirectly for the food vendors, suppliers, transporters and many others in the construction value chain.
“As a federal road, the project will be jointly supervised by the team of engineers from the state Ministry of Works and Transport as well as the Federal Ministry of Works.
“We have already obtained the approval of the federal government to construct this road because it belongs to the federal government.
“We wanted the federal government to do it but we are too anxious, we can not wait for them as we are not looking for a refund but if we can get it, we will be very happy,” said the governor.
He called on the contractor to adhere strictly to the specifications and complete the project within the timeframe, adding that arrangements had been concluded to pay him a 30 per cent advance payment.
The governor also urged the benefiting community to cooperate with the contractor to ensure the successful execution of the project.
In his vote of thanks, the Emir of Ningi, Alh. Yunusa Danyaya appreciated the governor for making his dream about the road a reality.
He promised to ensure maximum cooperation of the people of the local government with the contractor for the effective and successful execution of the project.
