Don Blames FG For Lack of Preparation Before Fuel Subsidy Removal
A University lecturer, Professor Abdullateef Oladimeji, has blamed the Federal Government for not making adequate preparations before the fuel subsidy removal.
Professor Abdullateef, Dean, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Al-Hikmah University, Ilorin, argued that the best thing for the government would have been to prepare the minds of Nigerian citizens before the removal of the fuel subsidy.
The don was speaking in an interview with journalists on the sideline of the Second Annual Conference of the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria, CIPMN, Kwara state branch, in Ilorin on Tuesday.
According to him, every presidential candidate of all the major political parties in the 2023 general elections promised to remove the fuel policy.
“The preparation would have been to put measures in place to cushion the effects of the policy on Nigerians before the removal, but unfortunately, here we are.”
Prof. Abdullateef further contended that the palliative programme and reduction of work-days by the government to cushion the effects of the fuel subsidy removal, would not solve the problems triggered by the policy.
“Rather, it will create man-hour loss and decline in productivity generally.”
Chairman of the state branch of the institute, Mrs Olaide Gloria Ajiboye, said the conference was prompted by the current challenges affecting countries around the world, particularly human resources managers.
“As human resources managers, we thought we should gather and brainstorm towards finding solutions to the socioeconomic challenges and present to the government.”
Mrs Olaide asserted that “we want to proffer solutions for the current challenges triggered by the removal of the fuel subsidy and its attendant socio-economic consequences among others on the citizens.
The lead speaker at the conference, Dr Christiana Famro, who spoke on the theme “Human Resource Management In Challenging Times”, said challenging times are universal and not peculiar to Nigeria only.
She said that challenging times are always characterized by considerable stress when great difficulties and turbulence are experienced, saying that with time people will overcome if they can endure.
