Groups, Kwara Govt Offer Free Surgeries To Over 200 Patients

The Sakinah Medical Outreach and Kwara State Association of Nigeria, North America (KSANG) in collaboration with the Kwara State Government on Tuesday commenced free surgical interventions for over 200 patients.
Speaking at the flagg-off of the Surgery in Ilorin, Dr AbdulRasheed Nasir, the Team Lead of the Surgical Intervention disclosed over 100 patients will benefit from eye surgeries at the Civil Service Clinic in Ilorin.
According to him, additional beneficiaries numbering over 100 are also expected to receive free surgeries at eight different General hospitals across some Local Government Areas of the state.
Some of the General hospitals are located in Offa, Omu-Aran, Kaiama, Okuta, Ilesa-Baruba, Patigi, Oke-Ode and Ilorin General Hospital.
He explained that the free medical outreach was borne out of the need to intervene and take care of the health needs of the indigent in the state.
Nasir observed that the Sakinah Medical Outreach and the US-based KSANG have been at the forefront of free medical intervention for the teeming population in Kwara.
He added that the organisations have also pooled their resources to sponsor the surgeries of some indigents in Germany and India as part of their humanitarian services.
The expert reiterated that the organisation is fully committed to reaching out and complementing the efforts of Gov Abdulrahaman AbdulRazaq in the development of healthcare for the state.
In her address, Dr Amina El-Imam, Kwara Commissioner for Health commended the groups for the free surgical intervention, adding that they are worthy of emulation.
El-Imam, who represented the state governor, Abdulrahaman AbdulRazaq, added that the state government underscores its focus to ensure universal health coverage for Kwara residents.
She emphasised that the cardinal goal of the administration is to ensure universal health coverage for all people in the state irrespective of their location.
She reiterated the resolve of the state government to continue to prioritise the health of the citizenry while advising the continuous support of the state government to the group’s humanitarian services.
Speaking also, Dr Abdulkadir Adegboyega, the President of KSANG stated that the gesture is part of the initiative of the association to improve and promote the healthcare of the people in Kwara.
He explained further that Nigerians in the diaspora felt it was important to give back to the homeland, while also appealing to other Nigerians of Kwara descent in North America to join the association.
In his goodwill message, Dr Abdulkadir Ahmed, the Chief Medical Director (CMD) of General Hospital, Ilorin expressed appreciation to Sakinah and KSANG for the free surgical interventions, adding that they have been doing tremendously in the area of free healthcare for people.
He pledged the support of the hospital in doing everything possible to ensure they assist in promoting the humanitarian efforts of the association.
In their appreciative remarks, an 18-year-old beneficiary, Miss Bukola Ahmed, commended the association and the state government for the timely surgical intervention.
She believed that the timely surgery she received was life-saving, and would improve the quality of her life.
On his part, Mr Abdulfatai Alimi, father of a four-year-old beneficiary added that the free surgery has helped his son, adding that many people in the state have healthcare challenges that go unresolved due to financial problems.
Some of the surgical intervention includes Hernia, Keloid excision, Cataract, Lumps excision and Scar Fashion among others. (NAN)
