The Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, said he is eagerly waiting to hear positive news from the 2023 National Conference of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations in Abuja that a former Head of the Department of Mass Communication in the University, Dr Saudat Sallah Abdulbaqi, has been elected Council member of the highly respected professional body.
The NIPR National Conference, which incorporates the Annual General Meeting and election of officers, holds in Abuja between August 23rd and 25th, 2023.
A statement by the University’s Director of Corporate Affairs, Mr Kunle Akogun, said that Prof. Egbewole expressed this optimism when he received a team from the Kwara State Chapter of the NIPR, who visited him in his office on the sidelines of the Annual Doyin Mahmoud Memorial Lecture organised by the University’s Mass Communication Students’ Association.
The Vice-Chancellor praised Dr Abdulbaqi for her dedication and contributions to the field of Public Relations and communication scholarship, pointing out that this is reflective of the University’s sustained commitment to nurturing outstanding professionals.
In her remarks, Dr Abdulbaqi expressed her gratitude to the Vice Chancellor and his management team for their warm reception during the impromptu visit. She said that the Vice Chancellor’s warm reception of the NIPR team demonstrated the University’s commitment to fostering relationships and collaborative efforts.
Dr Abdulbaqi also congratulated the Vice Chancellor for assembling a competent and socially responsible management team, saying that interacting with any member of the management team is always a reassuring experience.
She added that the values and principles embodied by the team have contributed to the institution’s success and positive impact on both staff and students.
Dr Abdulbaqi aligned herself and the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) with the University’s vision for growth and development.
While acknowledging Unilorin’s commitment to its ambitious goals, represented by the “Vision 1 – 10 – 500”, which aims to transform the institution and elevate its status, the erudite scholar of Development Communication highlighted how this vision had already begun to manifest, benefiting both the University and its employees.
