Mozambique’s fisheries production hits 218,000 tons in H1

 

Mozambique’s fisheries production reached 218,000 tons in the first half of 2023, an official announced in Maputo, on Monday.

Artisanal fishing accounted for around 95 per cent, followed by industrial and semi-industrial fishing at four per cent.

Aquaculture accounted for one per cent, Lidia Cardoso, Minister of Sea, Inland Waters and Fisheries.

Cardoso announced the figure at a session of the National Administration for Fisheries.

“The past two years have seen average fishing yields on the decline in some fisheries.

“This is due to overfishing, marine pollution, ecological degradation and climate change,” she said.
