NCoS, Open University Relaxes Admission Requirements For Inmates, Personnel

Representatives of both the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) and the National Open University of Nigeria, (NOUN)

Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), and the National Open University of Nigeria, (NOUN), have agreed to representatives of both the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) and the National Open University of Nigeria, (NOUN)x requirements for inmates and personnel of the service to gain admission and study courses of their choice in the University.

Controller General, NCoS, Haliru Nababa, said that the need to relax the requirements is to improve the academic standing of inmates and prepare them for life after incarceration.

Represented by Deputy Controller General in the Directorate of Non-custodial Service, Ahmad Tukur, Nababa reiterated the Service’s readiness to key into the reforms of the institution in line with its mandates to reform, rehabilitate and reintegrate offenders back into society.

Coordinator of the NCoS-NOUN Special Study Centre, Controller of Corrections Francis Enobore, Francis Enobore,(Rtrd.), revealed that holders of National Diploma with Lower Credit can now get to study the courses of their choice in the institution.

He explained that this became necessary for more opportunities and flexible academic programmes for staff and inmates of the Service.

In a statement signed by the Public Relations Officer of the Service, Abubakar Umar, Enobore said the inmates in the correctional facilities have distinguished themselves as some of them are among the best-performing students in the University. (The Guardian)
