Heavy Downpour Wreaks Havoc, Washes Road, Bridge Away In Ilorin

 

Property worth millions of naira were damaged, roads washed away and bridge completely collapsed as a result of the last night heavy downpour in Ilorin, the Kwara State Capital and its environs.

The downpour also cut off some Communities from the State Capital.

The rain also affected business owners particularly at Yoruba road, Iloffa road, and other markets who have to salvage their wares in the gutters.

The effects of the rain had rendered some roads currently repaired impassable especially upper Gaa Akanbi- Onikanga-Danialu-Agbabiaka, Ita Alamu, Kangu, and Ita Elepa among others in Ilorin forcing residents to find alternatives.

One of such roads that completely collapsed is the one linking the state capital, Ilorin, with the Kwara State University (KWASU) through Shao- Malete road.

Choicereporters, who visited the area, report that the major bridge on Jeeje River in Shao has been totally destroyed and washed away, thereby cutting off the people of Malete and environs.

In a chat with our Correspondent, the Jagunmolu of Shao, Chief Stephen Wole Oke called on relevant authorities, the State Government particularly, the State Ministry of Works not to treat the matter with lethargy saying both the Lecturers, other categories of staff and much more painfully, the Students of the State University are being brought under an inescapable suffering.

Chief Wole-Oke, therefore, urged the State Government to do the needful to reconstruct the bridge as a matter of urgent priority.

Also commenting, a Public Affairs Analyst and an Indigene of Shao, Ambali Azeez appealed to the State government to assist the people to restore life back to the area.
