Fire Razes Major Market In Kwara, Destroys N80m Worth Property

Property worth over N80 million got razed sequel to a raging inferno that engulfed the popular Oja-Tuntun Baboko market complex in Ilorin West Local Government Area of the state.Kwara.

Choicereporters gathered that the incidened happened on Thursday at about 07.22p.m and confirmed by the Spokesman of the state fire service, Hassan Adekunle confirmed the incident.

He said that firefighters reduced the impact and enormity of the inferno, adding that their efforts stemmed the spreading of the fire to other shops.

The leading officer of the firefighters crew said their timely arrival at the scene enabled them to limit the damage caused by the ravaging fire.

“Out of 1,070 lockup shops, six were affected by the fire incident,” the officer disclosed.

The officer traced the cause of the fire to carelessness by one of the shop owners.

Contributing, the Director, Kwara State Fire Service, Prince Falade John Olumuyiwa,advised them to be safety conscious, especially with their cooking materials.

He, however, wished all Muslims, home and abroad happy Eid-el-Fitr celebrations.
